The Back4Good® Programme
In addition to pilates, I offer an eight week Back4Good® programme of gentle yet effective exercise sessions to relieve non-specific low back pain. These are always taught one-to-one so that each lesson specifically addresses the needs of the individual.
The programme commences with an assessment upon which the programme of lessons are based. You may be referred to our Back4Good® classes by your medical practitioner, such as your GP or physiotherapist. I will liaise with your GP to facilitate your referral and to plan the best programme for you.
During your sessions I will teach you the 'Pilates ABCs' - Alignment, Breathing and Centring (core stability). You will then be taught a series of exercises designed to help you control your movements and improve your posture, increasing both the strength and flexibility of your back.
The exercises are slow and controlled pilates based movements which develop the muscles that support the spine and improve flexibility of the spine.
Homework is given and additional physical activity is encouraged when away from Back4Good® classes. Keeping active and learning to self-manage your back are central to the programme.
I have always found Michelle an excellent Pilates teacher and have been always enjoyed and benefited from her classes.
However in the past 2 years I have developed specific back issues and Michelle who is trained in the Back4good Programme suggested that it may be of benefit to take part in this programme to alleviate the back and leg pain I have been experiencing. Michelle has worked hard by asking questions and observing how I move and stand to understand why I might be experiencing these problems and from those initial observations was able to put together a specific programme of exercises to practice. Our 1:1 weekly meetings ensure that I am undertaking these exercises correctly and Michelle encourages you to work to a high standard. Michelle is a highly skilled and intuitive practitioner, good at observing and understanding how your body is working. The programme involves a partnership and a commitment to undertake the exercises on a very regular basis. Because Michelle has worked so hard to help me achieve my goals with a set of targeted exercises, I have responded by undertaking the exercises at least 4 times a week, plus walking regularly.
I am pleased to say that I now walk better, move better, and am correcting my postural issues. I have got into an exercise habit and really enjoy doing them because I know that they have such a positive impact on my body and my well being.
I know my body is in much better shape now and can highly recommend Michelle and the Back4Good programme.
